About Mary & Breanna

“Artistic design doesn’t come from what “we think” it comes from “how we feel!” That’s what makes it our own and allows us to cross all boundaries and disregard the rules!”

Welcome to Salvaged Decor!

Here you will find new and re-purposed furniture, home decor, gifts, decorative paints, workshops for the DIY’er and so much more. With Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint, Paint Couture the Collection, and DIY Paints, Mary and Breanna are here to serve all of your decorative painting needs. They want to share their knowledge, and hope to inspire you as well!

The thing Mary and Breanna love most about re-purposing is the ability to frequently give their homes a fresh new look at a fraction of the cost. Most people have a vision for their home but simply don’t know where or how to start. When customers visit their store, Mary and Breanna enjoy getting to know them by asking questions about color, texture, and styles they are drawn to. From there, they are better able to help customers get their creative juices flowing and find the inspiration needed to get started on their own projects!

Inspiration can come from anywhere a picture, rug, outdoors or any other element. Mary once painted a side table based on the colors and textures on a greeting card she was drawn to!

Mary often says, “We are not bound by rules when it comes to our homes. Let us help you create a style that speaks to you.”

Our Story:

Written by Mary:

I’ve always loved decorating, painting, staining and re-purposing furniture and spaces. I make regular trips to my favorite junk shops, go to garage sales and YES even pick on trash day!

Breanna and I became a team back in 2003 when she saw what I was doing with re-purposed pieces and how I was using them to create the perfect space. While she and my son were decorating their new home, she would ask me to keep my eye out for just the right piece for this room or that space and I did.

We always found something- transformed it, and moved on to the next project.

The thrill of the hunt is one of my favorite parts of this business.

Breanna suggested we go into business together. When she, my son and their family moved to Holland, Michigan I decided to take her up on it. That was in April of 2013.

We rented a spot in an antique mall and began selling our creations. We did very well in Holland and decided to rent another space in Brooklyn, Michigan where we have a summer house. We had so much interest there and people were asking us to offer classes so we decided to take a leap of faith! We found a space in Brooklyn to open our own shop where we could offer decorative paints and accessories to the DIY market, as well as classes. We officially opened on February 22nd, 2014.

We are now distributors of 4 different lines of paint. With over 30 years of painting experience, I chose these 4 completely different paints because I wanted choices and variety! I also wanted quality, durability and color!

Color is paramount! And white and black are colors too!

We have been welcomed by the local residents as well as the local businesses and have expanded twice since we opened.

What a great time! ~ We have had so much fun meeting and helping people who share our love of transforming what we like to call, “treasures”.

I am retired, doing what I love and spending time with my grandchildren! While Breanna is a stay at home Mom and getting ready to build a new home. Oh yeah- we are keeping our eyes peeled for just the right pieces to paint!

We believe in honesty, prayer and treating others as we would like to be treated. Every day we continue to put one foot in front of the other ~ so far so great!
